In this section, I talk about the books and websites that helped me learn about food and digestion.
I borrowed most of these books from my local libraries, so I did not need to pay for anything.
- Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon is basically my bible for any food or digestion info.
- There are other books in the “Nourishing” Series. I read Nourishing Broth as well, which has more detailed info about broth and broth recipes.
Digestion
- Digestive Health with Real Food by Aglaée Jacob
- This is the second edition, but first edition is basically the same.
Fermentation
There are so many books that focus on fermentation recipes. I have read a few. Most are good. Anybody’s local libraries should have good selections. The call number is 664.024.
-
The Art of Fermentation by Sandor Katz
- Wild Fermentation by Sandor Katz
- This is the book’s first edition, but there is a second edition. I have not read the second edition, but is probably very similar.
- Traditionally Fermented Foods by Shannon Stonger
- Their blog has some of the recipes from this book.
Other
- Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human by Richard Wrangham
- I read this book in college. It details how cooking helped humans harness more energy from foods, allowing our brains to get bigger, making us smarter. It has good info on why we should avoid eating too many raw foods.
